There's shock and upset in a Lower Hutt suburb, where a 71 year-old man was found dead

One person is helping with a police homicide inquiry, after the man was found in a house on Jackson Street in Petone.

Jackson Street Programme chairwoman Leonie Dobbs says there are around six police cars, and a forensic van outside a Housing New Zealand complex.

Dobbs says it's typically a safe area where long-standing residents look after themselves, and are proud of their patch.
