The kiwi cyclists have been without a road contract for the past three months and have decided to return to track cycling with hope of excelling in the Madison.
Archbold's last competitive track race before hopping back on the bike five weeks ago was when he won gold in the scratch race at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
He says he hadn't ridden on the track for so long that he thought he'd be retiring from the discipline a winner.
He says people only ever remember their last race and that was a good one, but it's come a time where he has to get back on the track and it's been very enjoyable.
Archbold and Gate will race at an event in Portugal this weekend, with the goal of qualifying for next weekend's world cup meet in London.
