There's an air of confidence among the New Zealand men's hockey team despite a largely unconvincing World Cup to date

The Black Sticks finished third in Pool A and cross over with Pool B runners up England overnight for a place in the quarter finals.

The two sides haven't played each other for four years but Black Sticks striker Marcus Child is confident they can have their measure.

He says it's always a good battle but he really thinks they can go forward and if they play well they can take it to them and put some goals in the back of the net.

The winner will face Argentina in the quarter finals.
