Changes to the Emissions Trading Scheme are expected to allay concerns about its integrity
13 December 2018
A study by the Stockholm Environment Institute three years ago suggested 55 percent of emissions under the scheme have been covered using questionable offsets, with little environmental integrity.
Forestry Minister Shane Jones says the ETS has been blighted by the introduction of international units.
He says the ministry's decided not to reopen the scheme to those units.
Jones says that will assure those who were fearful the value of carbon units might crash, as a consequence of a precipitous opening of the Ukrainian and Russian international market.
He says that's been ruled out as of today.
