Nineteen-year-old Rouxle Le Roux was sentenced to 11 months' home detention in Auckland, over the death of 15-year-old Nathan Kraatskow.
More than 90-thousand thousand people have signed a petition created by Charlene Kraatskow, calling for the Crown to appeal the sentence.
She never expected such support and says people are clearly feeling the family's pain.
Kraatskow says even if nothing changes in this case, she'd like them to have a look at the justice system.
