Police have arrested a fleeing driver who hit several police cars

Christchurch police say they were called to a suspicious vehicle on Ferry Road shortly after 8am.

They say when police approached the van the driver fled - hitting a police car.

Police pursued the driver around the Woolston and Opawa suburbs - where he hit several more police cars before being stopped.

The driver has been arrested and is facing a charge of aggravated failing to stop.
