The head of the Tomorrow's Schools taskforce is urging its critics to take a breath and have a proper read of its report

A number of principals have come out swinging against the blueprint for the future of our education system.

One of the most controversial recommendations is setting up regional education hubs to take over many of the governance duties of boards of trustees.

Macleans College principal Steven Hargreaves is one of those fired up, saying losing control and community input to a faceless bureaucracy would be a crime.

Tomorrow's Schools taskforce chair Bali Haque (hark) says they went around the country and spoke to boards, holding 200 meetings.

He says boards of trustees told them they want to focus on teaching and learning, which is what the proposal allows them to do.

Bali Haque is urging those claiming it will destroy the school system to calm down, sit down and read the report.
