A tactical decision late in the race has seen Wild Oats XI to claim line honours for the ninth time in the famous Sydney to Hobart yacht race

A tactical decision late in the race has seen Wild Oats XI to claim line honours for the ninth time in the famous Sydney to Hobart yacht race

The supermaxi trailed defending champions Comanche for much of the race.

However following advice from his tactician, skipper Mark Richardson decided to sail away from Tasmania's east coast, in a move that proved a masterstroke.

He says they'd been very unlucky with wind shifts throughout the race, but got a little break towards the end and were able to sail away from the rest of the fleet.

Black Jack has finished second with last year's winner Comanche third.
