A teenager has been missing in the water off Whatipu - West of Auckland - since around 1.30 this afternoon as emergency services frantically search for him

As of 2.25pm the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was stood down as the youth could not be found.
It is understood he was at the beach with family when he was swept out to sea.
Two women went into the water to try and help him.
One woman went in up to her waist before returning to the beach.
The other, in her 20s, made contact with him but could not get him to safety.
She has since been rushed away in an ambulance.
The teen's family remain waiting at the water's edge and are extremely distraught.
