The attack happened at Manchester's Victoria train station on New Year's Eve, injuring three people, including a police officer.
Greater Manchester Police are continuing to investigate the attack because of suspected links to terrorism.
A raid of the man's home in the city's Cheetham Hill area is still taking place.
A BBC producer who was at the station when the attack happened, says a man stabbed several people at the station, shouting 'Allah' and linking his actions to bombings in other countries.
