The ground had routinely hosted one-day internationals and domestic games before turf problems made it unfit for top level cricket.
It's been resurfaced and fitted with a new drop-in pitch and will be the scene for today's domestic Twenty20 between the Central Stags and Otago Volts.
Bowler Blair Tickner can't wait to get back onto the ground, which holds special memories for many from the area.
The first ball will be bowled at 7.10pm.
