It may have a new surface and a new drop in pitch, but McLean Park is expected to have the same old characteristics

The ground will host a first class cricket match today, for the first time since being dropped from the international and domestic calendars to get a much needed turf upgrade.

With the work complete it will host this evening's domestic Twenty20 between the Central Stags and Otago Volts.

Stags bowler Blair Tickner says he still expects the pitch will be very batsmen friendly, just as it always has been in Napier.

He says it will likely be a hard and fast surface.

The first ball will be bowled at 7.10pm.
