Water use in Tauranga is increasing as people try to cope with the summer weather

Residents are urged to monitor their use closely... or a sprinkler ban may be implemented.

Steve Burton, manager of City Waters at Tauranga City Council, says people need to try to cut down how much they use.

He says water use is probably about 10 to 15 percent above where he'd want it to be.

Burton says a little bit of rain is forecast in the coming days... but not enough.
