A mum and five young children were among those onboard a bus which crashed in Auckland today

The bus and a car collided on Gowing Drive in Meadowbank at 11.30 this morning.

The mother, injured in the crash, put her body on the line to protect the youngest child, who was just two.

Intensive care paramedic Chris Deacon was at the scene, and says one child on the bus was sent to hospital to be assessed.

The driver of the car, a young man, died in the crash.

    10 other people were injured.
