High levels of lead have been found in eggs being laid by pet chooks in Auckland

High levels of lead have been found in eggs being laid by pet chooks in Auckland

A vet...Liz Cowie...found that just over half the eggs she tested had lead in the yolks which was dubbed sufficient to warrant a health concern.

The National Poison Centre says exposure to high doses can have adverse health effects.

It can seriously impact nervous system development and cause neurological problems and even seizures in severe cases.

Pregnant women and children under 5 are thought to be the most vulnerable.
