Auckland's Orakei Local Board has hit a barrier when it comes to improving road safety in its community

Auckland's Orakei Local Board has hit a barrier when it comes to improving road safety in its community

A man in his late 20s died over the weekend after his car slammed head-on into a bus on Gowing Drive in Meadowbank.

Local Board Deputy Chairperson Carmel Claridge says residents have been pleading for safety improvements for decades, but nothing's been done.

She's hoping this accident will open some eyes and lead to a resolution.

She says the board is doing its best to get Auckland Transport's attention, but is fighting a losing battle.
