NRL player Greg Inglis has escaped conviction for drink driving
14 January 2019
The utility back was stripped of the captaincy of the Australian rugby league team after he was caught speeding at 99 kilometres and hour in an 80 zone and driving with an excess blood alcohol level in October.
Inglis was returning to Sydney from Dubbo.
He was issued with an infringement notice for speeding and pleaded guilty to drink driving in November.
It appears his lack of conviction is based on his charitable nature, with the chief magistrate acknowledging his major community contributions, charity work and mentoring roles to Aboriginal people, as well as the toll the offence has had on his career.
