The England captain suffered the problem during the final stages of Spurs' 1-nil English Premier League defeat to Manchester United, with tests having taken place once the injury settled down.
The club says Kane damaged ligaments in his left ankle and will be monitored by medical staff as he commences rehabilitation.
It is the third successive season in which he has suffered an ankle injury, the most recent one keeping him out for a fortnight last March.
