16-year-old Amber-Rose Rush was found dead in her Corstophine home in February last year.
30-year-old Venod Skantha - then a doctor at Dunedin Hospital - was charged days later, pleading not guilty to murder, as well as indecent assault and four charges of threatening to kill.
In a decision posted online, Judge Gerald Nation has declined Skantha's request for his trial to be held outside Dunedin.
He says he's satisfied a jury will be able to reach a verdict solely on evidence, uninfluenced by prejudice or sympathy.
The trial is likely to occur in the latter half of this year.
