Auckland Council has invoked emergency powers to take out the pine trees identified as at immediate risk of falling.
Removal was supposed to begin today, but people entered the site overnight and laid barded wire and twine between the trees.
Auckland Council community facilities general manager Rob Sheridan says the Council can't tolerate staff and contractors being put at risk - and police have been contacted
Protesters plan to occupy the back sections of three West View Road properties, where residents were asked to evacuate during the felling.
