A warning for kayakers to watch out for weather conditions before hitting the sea

Three kayakers had to be rescued in Christchurch's Southshore last night after the Coast Guard lost sight of them during wild winds.

Police say they were called shortly before 8pm to reports people could no longer see the trio in the estuary.

A spokesman says the wind made conditions pretty bad for kayaking - but at least they had their life-jackets on.
