The bus drivers union is blaming a wage crisis for driver shortages in the Bay of Plenty

The weekend bus schedule in Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty is short by at least 40 drivers.
NZ Bus is bringing in drivers from Auckland, but it's still not enough - and more than 10 percent of weekend services didn't turn up.
First Union says the simple solution is to lift pay.
It says this, and additional training, would attract more drivers.
The union believes the current Public Transport Operating model, which awards contracts to the lowest paying employers, has eroded pay rates.
