The double Olympic rowing champion has claimed the 4000 metres individual pursuit title at the national track cycling championships in Cambridge.
He broke the New Zealand record in qualifying, posting a time of four minutes, 12.436 seconds.
It's among the world's top-10 fastest times at sea level.
Bond says it's a good sign.
The IP is no longer an Olympic discipline.
Kirstie James won the women's 3000m event by 14 1000ths of a second from Holly Edmondston.
