    The Black Sox have fallen short of claiming the softball Challenge Cup on Auckland's North Shore


    New Zealand's lost to Japan 3-1 in the final, with their solitary run coming in the seventh and final inning, with the game scoreless until the top of the sixth when Japan scored twice.

    Earlier the Black Sox thumped their "B" side 7-nil in their final round robin game.
