The Wellington City Council says the cause of yesterdays Tinakori Hill fire is likely human

The blaze broke out in the council-owned Town Belt reserve near Wadestown and took several hours to contain.

Open Space and Parks Manager Myfanwy Emeny has been at the scene today.

She says the public needs to use a bit of common sense when it comes to fire in the dry season.

The exact cause has yet to be determined.
