A total fire ban is in place - on the second anniversary of the devastating Port Hill fires
13 February 2019
Two years ago two separate fires tore through 16 hundred hectares of land destroying nine homes, and damaging five others.
A helicopter helping to fight the fires crashed causing the death of pilot Steve Askin.
No one's been held responsible for the fires which are believed to be deliberately lit.
From midnight last night, any outdoor fires in rural and urban areas of Christchurch and Banks Peninsula are banned.
