The convicted rapist has taken the witness stand at the High Court at Auckland to testify in his own defence at his third murder trial.
65-year-old Rewa was convicted in 1998 of Susan Burdett's rape - but two juries that year were unable to decide whether he was also responsible for her death.
Herald Court reporter, Sam Hurley, says Rewa claims they were in a secret, sexual relationship and they would take drugs together.
Rewa says there is evidence that points to someone else for the murder of Burdett.
