Sir Owen Glenn is throwing his weight around over the departure of Mark Hager as Black Sticks coach

Sir Owen Glenn is throwing his weight around over the departure of Mark Hager as Black Sticks coach

Glenn's frozen his financial support of $1 million across two years for the women's programme, and is demanding more transparency around the pending review which will focus on the final throes of Hager's decade-long tenure.

It's due for release on Monday.

Hager took a team that was 12th at the Beijing Olympics to win the Commonwealth Games gold last year, where Glenn watched in awe.

He says he was at every game, and would talk to the players and coach regularly.

Glenn's frustrated at not having seen a copy of the review before release, but Hockey New Zealand chairman Mike Bignell insists they needed to be mindful of everyone's privacy and confidentiality and that's why it's taken so long to prepare.

Bignell says they're trying to negotiate the situation with Glenn, and recently travelled to Sydney to talk the issue through.
