A call for teachers to be better equipped to teach sex education in our schools

A researcher says sex education is lagging behind and letting young people down as a result.
University of Canterbury associate professor Kathleen Quinlivan says the Ministry of Education doesn't provide support for professional development.
She says young people are navigating a complicated world but sex education is simply tagged onto health.
Dr Quinlivan says often sex ed teachers haven't been well trained in the area and they are usually P.E teachers.
