Wellington City Councillors will decide today whether to pour more money into the city's Town Hall

Wellington City Councillors will decide today whether to pour more money into the city's Town Hall

A 20 million dollar budget blowout means the project to strengthen and refurbish it is now going to cost 112-million-dollars.

Council documents attribute the blow out, in part, to Wellington's constructive market being the most expensive in New Zealand.

They also point to contractors being less willing to accept risk, following the collapse of some of the county's most trusted construction companies.

If the funding is approved, construction will start in March.
