Research for TV3's The Hui shows 75 percent of Maori support full legalisation of the drug.
Recent work for the Drug Foundation suggests there's much lower support for the move in the general population - with around a third of New Zealanders thinking it's the way to go.
Foundation Executive Director says Maori are much more likely to get a cannabis conviction than anyone else, so it makes sense they want it treated as a health issue.
He says that way resources could be diverted to prevention and treatment... and Maori wouldn't be burdened with a higher number of convictions than non-Maori.
