A fifth-wicket partnership of 235 between Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah gave Bangladesh brief hope at survival.
Soumya reached his maiden test in 94 balls and went on to 149.
Captain Mahmudullah continued to nurse the tail on his way to 141 not out, his highest test score.
Trent Boult was the key bowler, taking three of the four wickets to fall and securing his eighth five-wicket bag with five for 115 from 26 overs.
