Queenstown Police sergeant Steve Watt believes two other people were in the black Honda Odyssey that crashed on Gorge Road at 4am yesterday.
The crashed vehicle wasn't spotted until 10.30am.
It took three quarters of an hour to extract the injured woman.
The 22-year-old is now in Dunedin Hospital.
Sergeant Watt told the Otago Daily Times it doesn't appear that she had been driving the car - and they're inquiring into that.
