Two people remain in a critical condition following the Christchurch mosque attacks, including a young child

Police have confirmed 49 people were killed in yesterday's shootings.

42 are still being treated for injuries.

A four-year-old child is being transported to Starship Hospital in a critical condition, and one other person is also in a critical condition.

A 28-year-old man will appear in Christchurch District Court this morning, charged with murder.

    Two others remain in custody.

Police are urging all New Zealanders to remain extra vigilant, and if they see something suspicious - call 111.

Dozens of extra police have been deployed to the region.
