Despite the Commissioner of Police refusing the woman's application in 2017, she took the case to court to appeal the decision.
The application was for the same type of firearm used to kill 50 people in the Christchurch terror attacks last week.
On the same day Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced a ban on the weapons, the Wellington District Court publicly released its judgment in the case.
The judge has ruled the 'special reason' offered by the woman, was not sufficient to allow the guns in.
