Health officials are expecting a spike in reported measles cases during the school holidays

The MMR vaccine takes 14 days to work - meaning it needs to be given by this Saturday to be effective for the term break.

Medical Officer of Health for the lower North Island, Dr Annette Nesdale, says parents need to ensure their child is immunised.

She says the holidays are a high risk period due to people travelling around the country.
