    Paige Hareb has been unable to match it with a couple of hometown favourites in her opening surf of the world championship season


    The kiwi has been well beaten by Aussie Isabella Nichols and defending world champ Steph Gilmore in the first round of the Gold Coast event.

    Hareb faces a second-round repechage to keep her hopes alive.
