Gumboot Friday is a nationwide initiative led by New Zealander of the Year, Mike King, to lift awareness and raise money for mental health.
University of Canterbury Students Association President Sam Brosnahan says Christchurch has had its fair share of challenges and the impact on the community can't be underestimated.
He says the movement is timely for Christchurch - with lots of students being affected by the earthquakes and the terror attacks.
The initiative aims to raise two-million-dollars to help kids access counselling and support.
