After a night out drinking, Arrowtown resident Glen Wallace found himself alone at about 4am last month, and decided to spend the night in his ute.
He woke up to the 200 dollar ticket on his windscreen ... which the council refused to waive, even after hearing of his situation.
Wallace says he's worried the hardline stance could encourage someone to drive drunk.
The council says it does use discretion on the fines, but it doesn't consider someone not wanting to pay for a taxi home a special circumstance.
