A third of drivers stopped during a recent blitz were fined for not wearing a seatbelt.
Another 30 tickets were issued to drivers found using their cellphones, during the four-day operation last week.
Operation leader Inspector Wayne Ewers says Northland has many devastating fatal crashes.
He's disappointed so many aren't doing simple things, like wearing a seatbelt every time they drive.
