Yvette Williams remembered as one of NZ's best ever athletes

Auckland Athletics President Murray McKinnon feels the magnitude of Williams' achievements are typified through the 1992 book "Athletes of the Century," written by the late Peter Heidenstrom

He says Heidenstrom named Williams as the athlete of the century ahead of the likes of Sir Murray Halberg and Sir Peter Snell which says a lot.

In a clip from the Radio Sport archives, Williams says long jump wasn't the first athletics event she excelled at.

She says her best event early on was the shot put and she broke the New Zealand record early on and quite regularly after that.
