Darfield High school student Nathan Gunn saw girls pull the wet and muddy kitten out of the drain on Thursday, and take it to the office.
The 15-year-old says the deputy principal told the girls to put it back - so he grabbed it out again.
Keri Robson says her son should never have been put in that position.
She says Nathan deserves an apology and the school needs to acknowledge what it did was wrong.
Robson says teachers shouldn't be encouraging kids to be cruel to animals.
