A bar manager just wanted to keep his customers safe - in a dramatic armed robbery at a pub at Tikipunga
18 April 2019
A pair brandishing a shotgun - and what's thought to have been a screwdriver - entered the Whangarei tavern about 11 last night.
People in the pub tackled the man with the shotgun, which was fired once at the ground.
Manager, Mark Butler, says he was scared but adrenaline kicked in.
He says he was in security mode, and just wanted to protect his staff and customers.
Police are talking to a 25-year-old - and still searching another person.
