24-year-old Jerico Telea was left in a critical condition after being assaulted on Queen St in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police charged 20-year-old Joseph Larson with grievous bodily harm over the weekend.
Now that Telea has died, the charge is set to be upgraded to manslaughter.
Larson reappeared in court today to seek bail before the manslaughter charge is laid, but bail was denied.
