    Motorists on South Island's West Coast advised to take extra care

    Motorists on the West Coast of the South Island are being advised take extra care as people return from holidays, on a day where a severe weather warning is also in place


    Heavy rain and gales are forecast for Fiordland, Westland, Buller, and the Canterbury and Otago Headwaters.

    Surface flooding and slips are possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.

    Motorists across the country are being advised to take care as many are returning home from school holidays.
