Six formal expressions of interest for new teams of have been made to the NBL, with two coming from Australia, three from the North Island and two from the South.
A side from Otago is confirmed as one of the bids.
NBL General Manager Justin Nelson says the competition currently has nine teams, and their growth strategy allows room for more.
The competition resumes this afternoon with the Taranaki Mountainairs playing the Bay Hawks from 3pm.
