A low pressure system is bringing a series of cold fronts briskly sweeping over the country.
MetService meteorologist Sarah Haddon says there could be snow on the road at Porters Pass, Lindis Pass, Crown Range Road and Milford Road.
She says between one and four centimetres of snow may settle on the road, which could be significant for motorists.
The lower North Island is also in line for extreme gusts and heavy downpours.
