Second time has been a charm for Malcolm Hicks after finishing second at the Dusseldorf marathon

Competing in just his second marathon, the kiwi long distance runner has clocked a time of 2 hours, 13 minutes and 51 seconds which is well under the qualifying standard for the world championships in Doha.
Hicks says in his first race in Berlin he ran rather conservatively, so knew he had more to offer.
He says this time he put things on the line a bit more and was in a bit more hurt, but pushed through and was comfortable being uncomfortable.
Malcolm Hicks will now have to wait to see if he'll be selected by Athletics New Zealand for September's world athletics champs in Doha.
