Sixteen people have lost their lives on Taupo district roads in just over a month.
The most recent tragedy left three dead when a truck and a van collided early yesterday morning.
District mayor David Trewavas says getting the investigations done quicker is key to solving the problem.
He says improving road signage and the installation of side and median barriers, rumble strips, and shoulder widening should also be a priority.
