The 37-year-old's ranked third in the world behind 32-year-old Rafael Nadal and 31-year-old Novak Djokovic.
Nadal was the last teenager to win a major at the 2005 French Open but the likes of 18-year-old Canadian Felix Augier-Aliassime are emerging.
Federer has no doubt that age group will triumph again.
Federer is through to the quarter finals at the Madrid Masters.
